Republican Members Introduce Legislation to Recognize Jerusalem as Undivided Capital of Israel

January 4, 2017
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representatives Trent Franks (R-AZ), Ron DeSantis (R-FL), and Lee Zeldin (R-NY) introduced a bill today to “recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to transfer to Jerusalem the United States Embassy located in Tel Aviv”. Rep. Franks released the following statement about the timing of this legislation:

“The Congress of the United States has favored moving the American Embassy in Tel Aviv to its rightful place in Jerusalem for a long time but under the Obama Administration that has proved impossible. President Obama’s recent move at the UN to undermine Israel’s very right to exist was the ultimate betrayal. President Elect Trump has been openly supportive of moving the Embassy and we believe this is the time to make a bold statement that Jerusalem should remain the undivided and unequivocal capital of Israel.”
