April 29, 2004—Today U.S. Representative Trent Franks announced the appointment of Northwest Christian School Senior David Simon to the United States Air Force Academy. He is the son of Charles and Donna Simon.
“David has not only received high honors for his academic efforts, but has also shown himself to be an extraordinary young man through his leadership and his dedication to the community, as demonstrated by his enthusiastic volunteer work throughout the West Valley,” Franks said. “I wish him well as he enters into the Air Force Academy and continues his quest toward academic and personal excellence.”
At Northwest Christian School, David ranks second in his class, is a competitive track team member, and has received awards in the areas of Calculus and Physics. He volunteers at a homeless shelter and is a student leader in his church youth group.
In his application essay, David wrote the following:
“I desire to attend the United States Air Force Academy to [become] a pilot…[but] more than that, to become a small part of greatness, to be part of something that will allow me to further refine my own integrity and to continue the pursuit of excellence in my moral character, intellectual achievement, physical development, and psychological maturity…I look forward to the disciplined life that a military career requires and to the life of meaning and purpose that will be the inevitable result in the pursuit of the defense of Freedom and all that this country stands for.”
The Mission of the United States Air Force Academy is to “Inspire and develop outstanding young men and women to become Air Force officers with knowledge, character, and discipline; motivated to lead the world’s greatest aerospace-force in service to the nation.”
